Zaragoza University Zaragoza university's history dates back to the 12th century when the city was the site for a then called upper school, financed by the local church. The school had some degree of success and eventually between 1474-77 it was raised (under both royal and papal authority) to the category of a university. Over time different wings of the university have had some remarkable successes, including producing a Nobel Prize for Medicine winner in the early 20th century. Today Zaragoza university remains one of the greatest of Spain's learning institutions.
