Barcelona Airport (BCN)
Barcelona's International Airport (BCN) is located 12 kilometres South East of Barcelona in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat. It is Spain's second ranked airport in terms of passenger traffic & amongst the ten busiest in Europe. In excess of 24,500,000 passengers passed through it in 2004; with numbers rising year on year. The airport is fast becoming a major hub for international travel with 14% of passengers using it as a connection platform. As a result much investment has gone into the improvement of business facilities, & the airport now operates a wireless internet service in many of its public zones, in addition to meeting rooms & other services.
The airport itself consists of three terminals; with 12,500 car parking spaces, around 30 airline sales offices, a multitude of retail establishments, over 20 food outlets, banks, & much more. The airport (in 2004) employed 7,900 people directly & contributed over 1.51 billion euros to the Catalan economy. Expansion plans are already afoot.
