Barcelona Beaches

Barcelona boasts an excellent & varied seafront. However this was not always the case; the once shabby waterfront was only transformed during preparations for the 1992 Olympics. It now consists of many kilometres of clean sandy beaches, promenades, marinas, & leisure facilities. Great effort has been made to maintain the cleanliness of both sand & sea; so much so that visitors to Barcelona will find it difficult to imagine it was ever any different.

The vast majority of Barcelona's beaches are in urbanised zones, though flanked by attractive promenades & well serviced by eateries & retail outlets. Great care & attention is paid to litter collection on all beaches, many of which have attained the blue flag award. Lifeguards/police patrols are in operation.

Playa La Mar Bella / La Mar Bella Beach

Playa La Mar Bella is located on the opposite side of the Olympic marina to Playa El Bogatell & is very similar in appearance. It is 500 metres long, made up of fine golden sand, served by a host of eateries, retail outlets, & sporting amenities. The beach has been awarded the blue flag for cleanliness. Though in a semi urbanised setting the beach is flanked y sand dunes & can be hard to spot; this makes it ideal for nudists, with a 180 metre stretch of beach allocated for this purpose.

Facilities include;  Sun beds & umbrellas, toilets & showers, ramps & provision for people with disabilities, water sports, windsurfing, sailing & boat rental, childrens playground, sports facilities, life guards, & regular police patrols.

Playa El Bogatell / El Bogatell Beach

The 600 metre long Playa El Bogatell is located next to Barcelona's Olympic marina, & is along with Playa La Mar Bella the beach that services the residential community & Olympic village surrounding it. Flanking the beach is a delightful seafront promenade lined with eateries & cafes. Playa El Bogatell is an excellent beach made up of fine golden sand; it has been kept spotlessly clean since its inception, gaining a blue flag award in the process.

Facilities include;  Sun beds & umbrellas, toilets & showers, ramps & provision for people with disabilities, water sports, windsurfing, sailing & boat rental, childrens playground, sports facilities, life guards, & regular police patrols.

Playa Nova Icaria / Nova Icaria Beach

Playa Nova Icaria adjoins Playa La Bogatell on one side & the Port Vell harbour on the other. It is havily urbanised & flanked by a seafront promenade lined with eateries, cafes, & retail otlets. The beach is small at 400 metres, made up of fine golden sand, & has been awarded the blue flag for cleanliness.

Facilities include;  Sun beds & umbrellas, water sports, toilets & showers, ramps & provision for people with disabilities, childrens playground, sailing & boat rental, life guards, & regular police patrols.

Playa La Barceloneta / La Barceloneta Beach

Playa La Barceloneta sits on one side of Port Vell harbour at the bottom end of the La Rambla boulevard, & runs along the front of Barcelona's old fishing quarter. The beach is one of the cities longest at 1100 metres & is made up of fine golden sand. Like other beaches in the area it has been awarded the blue flag for cleanliness. It is in the centre of Barcelona & is heavily urbanised, flanked by a promenade, & well served by a host of eateries & retail outlets.

Facilities include;  Sun beds & umbrellas, water sports, toilets & showers, ramps & provision for people with disabilities, sailing & boat rental, life guards, & regular police patrols.

Playa Sant Sebastia / Sant Sebastia Beach

Playa Sant Sebastia stretches in the direction of Playa La Barceloneta. This 600 metre long beach is flanked by the seafront promenade, which due to its urbanised setting boasts many eateries & retail outlets. Made up of fine golden sand the beach has been awarded the European blug flag award for cleanliness. It is popular amongst locals & visitors alike.
