Costa Brava Holidays
The Costa Brava is great place to spend your holidays, it is also conveniently close to Barcelona making it an excellent weekend break destination. Firstly it is located in close proximity to two international airports; Barcelona Airport (BCN), which is Spain's second ranked airport in terms of passenger traffic & amongst the ten busiest in Europe, & Girona Airport (GRO) offering yet more flight options & closer proximity to the Costa's main resorts. See Costa Brava Flights for more information/to search for flights.
Those intending on visiting other parts of Spain/indeed the south of France will find the Costa Brava an ideal base to do this from. This is mainly from an accessibility point of view, but also because of the wide choice of accommodation on offer. Opportunities for car hire are also good; see the Costa Brava Car Hire document for more information.
The Costa Brava has been popular since the 1950's when it was opened up for development to attract tourism. The main draw to the area was its unspoilt countryside & coastline, considered to be amongst the most beautiful in Spain. Hollywood studios were also drawn to the area, & several high profile movies were filmed there at around the same time. Today the Costa is a beach holiday destination with developed tourist enclaves, while at the same time being an area with plenty of unspoilt & often rugged countryside to explore; this aspect is particularly popular amongst adventure tourists. The peaks of the Pyrenees mountain range offers excellent skiing opportunities in the shape of Andorra, & nearby Barcelona is one of the world's most popular city break destinations.
As mentioned above one of Costa Brava's big draws is its diversity, & this is carried through to the accommodation on offer. There are a multitude of good quality & affordable options on hotels & rental properties, catering from high-end to budget travel requirements. To search for hotels see Costa Brava Hotels; to search for rental accommodation see Costa Brava Apartments.
There are a multitude of shopping options along the Costa Brava, from fashion outlets to local goods & handicrafts. However easily the best selection is found in Barcelona as the chic & stylish nature of the city is reflected in its shops; & there are enough high end retail outlets to keep those interested for weeks. Alongside this are an abundance of high street offerings, markets, & department stores.
When it comes to beaches the Costa Brava has some of the best in Spain. It boasts 200 kilometres of varied coastline which has been prized for many years, & with more people visiting each season continues to be. Many of the Costa Brava Beaches are blue flag rated & kept meticulously clean. The majority of the most popular offerings are made up of golden sand, but there are pebbled beaches & rocky alcoves for those who prefer to indulge in a spot of snorkelling. Great care & attention is paid to litter collection, & lifeguards/police patrols operate in the most popular spots.
As with everything else the Costa Brava's nightlife differs greatly from town to town. Needless to say the main resorts come to life when the sun goes down with plenty of restaurants, bars, & the odd nightclub featuring. Other spots are significantly quieter, though all subscribe to the annual fiesta circuit. These more traditional fiestas or festivals cover a wide range of events, & there are a number to choose from, see Costa Brava Fiestas for more information.
Costa Brava Weather is in the main welcoming all year round. With average highs of 29°C (82°F) in the summer months, & 13°C (55°F) in the winter, it is possible to enjoy an outdoor life at any time of the year. However low temperatures are a good deal cooler here than in Spain's southern regions, & during the winter season the Costa Brava experiences a lot more in the way of rainfall. This is especially the case with the towns/villages on higher ground leading up towards the Pyrenees mountains.
