Gran Canaria has an abundant of attractions and sightseeing places for you to visit whilst vacating there. There are attractions for everyone, whether you are visiting Gran Canaria with Friends or the Family and bringing the Kids! With all resorts within 1 and a half hours of Gran Canaria Airport there is always a variety of things for you to do, depending whether you are planning an active holiday or relaxing beach holiday, Gran Canaria has something for everyone!!!
If you are planning or looking for more of an active holiday there are plenty of places for you to visit and things to do in Gran Canaria! Including the Water parks, of which there are three all located in the south of the Island, Aquasur, Ocean Park and Aqua Park. In total there are eight theme and amusement parks, which include; Palmitos Park which is a subtropical oasis and Zoo, Holiday World which is a leisure and amusement park, Sioux City a wild west town that has Cowboy and Indian fights and many other wild western attractions, Mundo Aborigen Located overlooking the Barranco de Fataga, which is the biggest and most dramatic gorge on the island, The Mundo Aborigen is a reconstruction of an ancient Canary village devoted entirely to the Guanche way of life. Cocodrilo Park - a Crocodile Park, this is a park that is devoted to adopting ill treated animals, buying them privately and from circuses, it started with just a few crocodile and now they have the largest collections in Europe! Among the animals are also, Monkeys and Tigers, it is family run and its proceeds from the entry fee go to the upkeep of the park! Cactualdea - a cactus park, Reptilandia Park - Reptile Park, Pueblo Canario - a Canary Village, where you can experience true Canarian culture!
Other Tourist Attractions on the island of Gran Canaria include Museums, Monuments and Historical Architectural buildings that are extremely impressive , Churches, Botanical Gardens and lots lots more! There is also water sports and Whale and Dolphin excursions like many of the other Canary Islands! When visiting Gran Canaria it is a must to go exploring the island you will see many wonderful views and scenery, in the mountains, forests, coastal and spectacular beaches or sand dunes!
Enjoy the variety of the Beaches in Gran Canaria they are exquisite, almost 60km of the 236km of the coastal line around the island are beaches or various descriptions and some are completely unique! They range from the impressive Maspalomas beach, here you can find 250 hectares of sand dunes that are right next to the sea, to the concealed and unspoilt beach of Güigüi, as well as the lively Las Canteras beach in the capital, Las Palmas! Plus many more - the beaches that are in the main resorts around the island boast water sports, changing facilities and toilets, bars and restaurants! You will also find beaches on protected land and these are really beautiful, with natural beauty and unspoilt landscapes, there are small coves and nudist beaches too which are mainly found in the South!
If you are going for a 'party' holiday no doubt you won't be getting up very early, but don't worry, many of these activities are open till late. But if its partying you want then there's no where better than the resort hotspots, Playa del Ingles and Puerto Rico, these resorts come to life at night, Youll find everything here from dance bars, piano bars and cocktail bars to lively discos that throb until breakfast time. In San Augustin and Las Palmas you can take in a show at the casino and then try your luck at the gaming tables. Or you can visit Sioux City for a barbecue and Wild West show. If you copy the locals and have a siesta it will help you keep up with the pace and last the night as some places do not even shut till 6am!! Nightclubs are generally free entry although drink can be expensive!
If your into your watersports then the Canary Islands is a brilliant place to go, Gran Canaria has held the PWA World Classic Grand Prix. With several windsurfing and diving school's if your a beginner or want to brush up on your skills you can. It is also ideal for surfing, bodyboarding, deep sea fishing, Parascending, Jet and water skiing, sailing and has great coves for snorkeling and shipwrecks and marine reserves for scuba diving, there are also many diving schools across the island in the main resorts where you can take diving course's from beginners to the more advanced.
As you can see Whatever your preference for your holiday, you will never be stuck for anything to do and far from bored!
