La Merced Convent

The La Merced convent first opened it's doors in the 13th century, though it was redesigned in the 18th century with its facade in baroque style. It is most famous for being the place that Christopher Columbus stayed when he was waiting for the Catholic monarchs (Isabel and Ferdinand) to receive him. This is an attractive religious building which has survived fires and many important historical events during it's long life.
