Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the Capital of Gran Canaria, located in the north west of the island! Las Palmas was founded in 1478, The City boasts an important historical and cultural heritage, of which much of this can be found in the district of Vegueta, which is the oldest quarter of the town, this was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990. Puerto de la Luz is the harbour in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria which is one of the most important in all of Europe and gives the City a very cosmopolitan image!

Las Palmas has lots of magnificently beautiful scenery and is separated into two bays and two of the most beautiful beaches on the island, Playa de las Canteras and Playa de las Alcaravaneras!

There is lots of nightlife in Las Palmas, here you will find more traditional bars and restaurant that boast true Canarian culture! Rather than the other tourist resorts that have the normal tourist English, Irish and German bars! In Las Palmas you will also be able to take in a show or go to the Casino!

The lively Playa de las Canteras beach that is located in the capital of the island , Las Palmas! This stretch of beach is a lagoon with ideal temperate waters, the  3km long cove with a 'La Barra' - which is a natural reef that is about 200 meters long located some hundred metres off the beach. Playa de las Canteras is also a haven for all watersports at the south of the beach where the natural rocks barrier  finish the waves come crashing making it ideal for surfers too! The beach at Las Canteras is lined with all kinds of shops, bars and restaurants.

Tourist Attractions on the island of Gran Canaria include Museums, Monuments and Historical Architectural buildings that are extremely impressive , Churches, Botanical Gardens, more theme parks and lots lots more! There is also water sports and Whale and Dolphin excursions like many of the other Canary Islands! When visiting Gran Canaria it is a must to go exploring the island you will see many wonderful views and scenery, in the mountains, forests, coastal and spectacular beaches or sand dunes! These are all easily accessible from Las Palmas, whether you hire a car and explore in your own private group or perhaps take an excursion, which you can organise through a tour operator or it is easy to find a company that does this in the centre of the resort.

If you are planning or looking for more of an active holiday there are plenty of places for you to visit and things to do in Gran Canaria! All accessible again with excursion or by hiring a car from Las Palmas, they include; Water parks, of which there are three all located in the south of the Island, Aquasur, Ocean Park and Aqua Park. In total there are eight theme and amusement parks, which include; Palmitos Park which is a subtropical oasis and Zoo, Holiday World which is a leisure and amusement park, Sioux City a wild west town that has Cowboy and Indian fights and many other wild western attractions, Mundo Aborigen Located overlooking the Barranco de Fataga, which is the biggest and most dramatic gorge on the island, The Mundo Aborigen is a reconstruction of an ancient Canary village devoted entirely to the Guanche way of life. Cocodrilo Park - a Crocodile Park, this is a park that is devoted to adopting ill treated animals, buying them privately and from circuses, it started with just a few crocodile and now they have the  largest collections in Europe! Among the animals are also, Monkeys and Tigers, it is family run and its proceeds from the entry fee go to the upkeep of the park! Cactualdea - a cactus park, Reptilandia Park - Reptile Park and Pueblo Canario!

Pueblo Canario is located in Parque Doramas in Las Palmas! It is a Canary Village, designed and built in the 1930s by the brothers Néstor and Miguel Fernandez de la Torre to interest tourists in island culture, it is a a complex of several traditionally built island houses with the famous wooden carved balconies forming a typical Canary village with gates, turrets and an atrium. The village boasts a large central square – where twice a week enthusiastic folklore shows take place – surrounded by shops selling local handicrafts and the Bodegón (wine bar) Canario, where you can taste several dishes of the typical Canary. There is also a museum and tourist centre there. It is well worth a visit to experience true Canarian culture! Pueblo Canario is all year round, Tuesday to Saturday from 10am till 8pm and Sunday from 10.30am till 2.30pm!

Spain and the Canary Islands are famous for their festivals (fiestas) and Gran Canaria is no exception!! Throughout the year Gran Canaria has many fiestas and carnivals, Las Palmas is a City that hosts many of these fiestas throughout the year! So if you are vacating in Gran Canaria during a fiesta, why not go along and for the more daring - participate!!!! There are plenty of Apartments to rent for your holiday, in Las Palmas, whether you want a basic apartment just to lay your head a night or luxurious with an abundance of facilities! They range in size from studio's or one bedroom apartments if there are just the two of you to three bedroom - normally sleeping up 8 if your taking the family or going in a big group.

There's also the private rentals, Villas and Apartments, that people have bought the property for holiday homes and when they are not there rent out for your exclusive use! These are lovely, normally set in privately owned complexes, where people live! Most come with communal swimming pools too, and these are normally quieter due to this. A word of warning though these are quieter and normally better for families or older groups than the young tourists!!! Prices range from €35 per day for a Studio in Las Palmas upwards. They will do deals for the longer you have it, it becomes cheaper per day! But generally you are looking from €120 per week for a Studio rental and prices go compared to size and location.
