Buses

All Madrid Buses have air-conditioning and disabled access.  Madrid buses run to places that the Metro does not, and often can be a quicker way of crossing Madrid city as the buses have their own bus lane.  Buses run from 06:00-23:00 and arrive approximately every 10-15 minutes.  After 23:00 there is a night bus that has several routes the majority pass the Plaza de la Cibeles.  The night bus is often referred to as the Owl (Buhos in Spanish).  Single tickets can be purchased on the bus, alternatively you can buy a Metrobus ticket from Metro station in Newspaper shops.  Metrobus tickets are 10 singles for a huge discount.

Metro

The Metro is one of the biggest underground train systems in the world with 12 lines totalling around 200 stations, it is probably the most effective way to cross the city in terms of time and money.  Running almost around the clock from 06:00-02:00.  The Metro logo is similar to the London Underground, instead of circular it is a diamond shape.  Tickets can be bought as singles or ten singles at a time at a huge discount.  Please note that the Metrobus ticket cannot be used on the Metro underground train.  Children under 4 years old travel free.
