  • Banks - are a little different they are generally open Monday to Friday 9am till 2pm

  • Cash machines (ATMs) - are widely available throughout Madrid

  • Currency - Euro (EUR) €

  • Electricity - 220 volts, 50 Hz (remember to pack your adapter)

  • Language - Spanish Castilian

  • Pickpockets - pickpockets is the biggest threat you will face on you holiday in Madrid thieves are rife throughout the city and very good at discreetly stealing your belongings usually by befriend you and/or without you being aware of it.  A money belt is advisable, and to avoid looking like a typical tourist

  • Telephone Dialing Codes - country dialing code +34 area dialing code +91

  • Time Zone - GMT+1 (Greenwich Mean Time)

  • Tipping - 10% is normal tip for restaurant and taxi drivers, luggage handlers at the hotel will accept a small tip, it is not normal to tip other public service workers

  • Visa - not required for EU (European Union) members providing your stay is under 90 days

  • Visiting Religious Sights - it is acceptable to dress smart casual when visiting churches, convents, and cathedrals, for example no shorts
