Plaza de los Sitios Square

The Plaza de los Sitios square was constructed for a 1908 Spanish-French exhibition to unite both countries in memory of the peninsular war. The square was built to accommodate 5,000 exhibitors. It is flanked by some of Zaragoza's most treasured buildings, including the Museum of Zaragoza.

It's centerpiece is the Monument to the Sieges which was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII of Spain. Widely thought to be the most beautiful public sculpture in the city it is in modernist style, depicting the defenders of Zaragoza against the armies of Napoleon Bonaparte.
