Welcome to Tindaya
Tindaya is a small goat farming village and protected zone lying at the base of the Tindaya Mountain that is 401 metres high! Located in the north of Fuerteventura.
From the mountain on a clear day from the top of Tindaya - you can see the Mount Teide which is the highest mountain in Tenerife! Old inhabitants of the island used to think that it was the devils residence and all carvings on the mountain face in that direction! More than 100 carvings of podomorphs - feet - can still be seen today in the smooth rock. These markings were only discovered recently in 1978 and the feet are supposed to ward off evil spirits! Traquita is the rock of the mountain it is very hard and defies erosion and when it is treated and smoothed over it makes and attractive fascia - you can see this stone decorating the walls of Fuerteventura airport.

Recently the sculptor - Eduardo Chillida who is a contemporary Basque sculptor has announced that he intended to 'hollow out' the mountain ad build a 'gigantic cube'. Chillada said he wished to create "a great space where we would feel smaller than what we think we are, and more tolerant to one another, a place of tolerance". This has caused 'uproar' with local ecologists, grassroot groups and archeologists that are determined to protect and defend there environment. If this goes ahead then it will also include public park and will make this one of the biggest tourist attractions on the island.
Other than the Tindaya Mountain in Tindaya there is not much else here, just a small village with a few residents and local shops and bars, including the Tindaya Arms, which is a busy part of the village and hosts parties for fiesta times, quizzes and even bingo in Spanish for locals and extranjeros. There is a large collection of artefacts from Fuerte and the owner, Bernie Power, gives a talk on the history of the island on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2-4. Good food, cold beer and all the information you can handle in a tiny little place like Tindaya which is expanding all the time.
The nearest beaches are those in Corralejo, which is about 20-30 minutes maximum from Tindaya, The beaches in the town of Corralejo are smaller and great for sunbathing but if you want picturesque scenery or water sports then flag beach is the place to go it is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers. Flag beach is just outside Corralejo town, there are plenty of restaurants, bars and toilets around the beach and life guards patrol the area too! With its crystal clear water and white sand that goes on for miles its no wonder that its neighboring sand dunes and part of this beach is used regularly for photo fashion shoots, TV advertisements, Music Videos and lots more! Also El Cotillo is close by with some very beautiful beaches and lagoons.
The nightlife in Tindaya is non existent other than a few small local bars, you will not find anything else here so again if you are up for an evening out then you will have to go to the resort of Corralejo, here the nightlife mainly centres around the Atlantico Commercial centre that has plenty of bars and restaurants in and surrounding it, this is where to go for a great night out! Whether you are looking to party the night away in one of the many bars or chill in the beautiful square close by listening to the evening entertainment in a variety of lovely restaurants that share this picturesque setting. Or maybe you'd prefer an seafront restaurant and just sit outside and watch the world go by! Whichever you preference you can find it in Corralejo and never be stuck for anything to do in the evening! Alternatively the majority of the main hotels in the resort have brilliant restaurants and a varied entertainment schedule which is perfect for those with the younger families!
Although as an Island Fuerteventura does not contain the usual water parks, zoo's and theme parks as lot of of other holiday destinations do, but it as an immense amount of beautiful land and surrounding ocean, with a national park in the South and lots of history throughout for you to explore!
There are not any Apartments and villas that available to rent for your holiday, in Tindaya although if you stay in the nearby tourist resort of Corralejo you will have a huge variety - whether you want are looking for a basic property somewhere just to lay your head a night or luxurious with an abundance of facilities! Properties range in size and shape, from studio's or one bedroom apartments, if there are just the two of you to three bedroom - normally sleeping up 8 if your taking the family or going in a big group, or one bedroom villas and bungalows up to 6 bedroom villas!
There are Companies that rent these properties out, but also there is private rentals, where people that have bought the property for holiday homes and when they are not there using it they will rent it out for your exclusive use! Some of these properties can be set in privately owned complexes, where locals live! Most come with communal swimming pools too, and these are normally quieter due to the fact it isn't full of holiday makers and is more residencial. A word of warning though these are quieter and normally better for families or older groups than the young tourists!!!
